Sterling C. Evans Library and Annex to Undergo Renovations
ReImagine Campaign Provides More Collaborative Areas for Students
COLLEGE STATION (November 21, 2016) – On November 28th, Texas A&M University Libraries will begin an extensive renovation of Sterling C. Evans Library and Annex to enhance student study and service areas. The reconstruction campaign, ReImagine, will continue through 2017. During this time, access to and from both buildings will remain open. While some floors will be cordoned off for reconstruction, ample room will still be available for students in preparation for upcoming finals.
“One of our goals with the reconstruction is to increase the collaborative and group study spaces for students in Evans Library and Annex,” explained Pixey Mosley, Associate Dean for Administrative and Faculty Services at the Texas A&M University Libraries. “By creating more access to power sources in study spaces, and increasing service accessibility, we hope to make the Libraries even more of an indispensable hub of discovery, learning, and accessibility.”
The scope of the project includes major enhancements to Evans 2nd, Annex 1st floor, and Annex 4th floor, along with a reconfiguration of the 1st floor Evans service desk. Students will enjoy increased access to power outlets in the remodeled spaces, redesigned collaborative study areas, library classrooms with enhanced technology and the ability for more interactive, hands-on instruction. Architecturally, study and service areas will be more open and collaborative to allow students easier access to receiving help from librarians and staff for research and technological needs.
The renovations will be completed in several stages, beginning with the 1st floor of the Annex. This phase will shut off access to the Annex 1st floor study area and AskUs desk, however, access to the first floor elevator lobby will remain intact along with access to the Annex via the skywalk from the 4th floor of Evans. AskUs staff will be stationed in the Annex 1st floor lobby to assist with any needed assistance.
The second stage will involve the 4th floor of the Annex, with Media & Reserves being moved to the remodeled 1st floor to allow for more accessibility. Evans 1st floor will also be affected, but students will still be able to enter both buildings and use the space. The final stage will involve reconstructing the 2nd floor of Evans to allow for better visibility for the Maps and GIS services and more open, collaborative, and interactive spaces for students to utilize.
Throughout the ReImagine campaign the Libraries will be sharing updates and notifications through social media and through the library website at http://library.tamu.edu
